FaceBook/Machine Using Us Video

After reading the article about Facebook and its creator, I was very interested and liked to see how the whole thing got started. I never knew that just a college student who is only a couple years older than me created it. What he created turned out to be worth so much money, and he is still always adding new things to it. I think that when Facebook first started it was good way for college students to communicate and things like that but then after they started to put so much more into it and add different things, it took away from the college life and included everyone. I’m not sure that this was such a good idea, since now it is so much like MySpace, and everyone is included on there. Now you might have people like older men talking to young college girls and freaking them out. I think the new Facebook takes away from the privacy a little bit. After reading more into the article on Facebook, you can see how many new applications are on now on the Facebook. Many of the applications are like MySpace also in that there is tagging of photos, and personality quizzes and such. There is so much on there now, I think it gets more and confusing. Whatever Mark started is now just changing so dramatically but I guess that goes along with any other kind of technological thing. Everything is just going to keep changing and getting better and more advanced. It might have a lot to do with money, in that Mark just wants to keep adding more and more to get bigger and more known with Facebook. The more he adds to it, the more people will sign up interested to check it out and then Facebook gets worth more. I agree in that Facebook was fine the way it started in that it was perfect for college students and a great way to communicate with one another. Now Facebook is just like everything else such as MySpace. Mark should have just kept it for college students and kept adding a little more to it, but kept it in that one particular group. He can only do so much with it now, and then MySpace could do it too. Now, Facebook is just like everything else, and not different.

I also really enjoyed the video on digital texting and the computer, and thought it was amazing how that video was put together. It kind of helped me understand what was talked about in class on how clicking on something on the computer can go so far and how the computer then takes us to where we want to go. I thought it was strange to hear how we teach the computer what to do, just by clicking on something. We are also learning when we click on something and then read and understand what we are now looking at. The video was very fast and hard to keep up with so I had to look at it a couple of times, but the professor who made that was very smart and it was interesting. The form and content part was a little confusing, but I understood how amazing it is that sites can hold multiple data and links, and we help to organize this data. I think we are the Web and what it is, and the computer is us, and we are always linking people together in different ways.
