Lonely Girl
I read the articles on LonelyGirl15 and I am honestly disturbed. I think that the entire situation is just awkward and a complete fraud. I watched her videos and I really thought they were pointless and I don’t understand why anyone would want to put themselves out on the internet in that fashion. I think that it is really exploitive and minors should not be able to participate in video posting. I think that sets children up for predators. Also, the point that all of the videos ended up being fake, makes it even worse. Bree made people believe she was an innocent sixteen year old and drew in viewers. But in reality she was an actress and had camera men in the room while she was posting her videos. All of the objects in the room also still had tags on it and it was actually the director’s actual bedroom. I think this is a perfect example of how the internet is deceiving. People pretend to be people they are not and tell false information. I think it is really weird and just ridiculous. I personally, do not participate in any postings online (besides for this class) because I do not like talking to people I do not know. Especially considering the fact that a lot of people are not who they say they are. For all I know I could be talking to a 50 year old man who says he is a twenty year old girl. I just really think that this whole LonelyGirl phenomenon is so ridiculous. She drew in viewers and people who thought they were really watching and interacting with “Bree.” I think it is wrong that people can deceive others through the internet. I understand that she was an actress and obviously wanted exposure, but I think being dishonest is not the way to do it. Clearly she received the attention she wanted, but I really do not approve of this.
