Lonelygirl15 Article

“She is a high school girl with swooping eyebrows, boy problems, a webcam willing to listen. The room behind her could be anywhere in America- there’s a pink floral-print bedspread, a half-dozen stuffed animals, and a framed picture of a rose on the wall. But this isn’t what it appears to be…” This sounds all too familiar. It seems as if any person that posts video-blogs of themself on the Internet. However, this was a very smart person and realized he could mock the people doing these things and create basically a movie out of webcam-blogging. People truly thought “Lonelygirl15″ was a real person, but it was a “work of fiction”. They rearranged the room and made it a video set. It was a great idea, but it is strange how there were real people commenting on her videos and thought she was a real person they could relate too. But, it is kind of like the real movies because in that moment in time people act as if they know the actors and the situations they are in during the movie.

I checked out some of the webcam videos and people are still commenting on the videos as if she is a real person and not acting. It is strange that people sit at home and watch other people’s videos that they post on the Internet. I feel as if that is spying on someone, but then again the person is allowing people to spy on them. Very strange. Another aspect of this article I thought was interesting is how Beckett had to make sure that they would not get sued “for deceiving the public”. I did not even think that such a thing could even happen to someone for posting “fake” blogs on the Internet. So, essentially many people are posting “fake” images of themselves on the Internet? Many people post webcam blogs and they can be portraying themself as something they are not.
